Neighbourhood Watch – together making the area safer

A simple form of cooperation where neighbours, the police and the municipality work together to prevent burglaries and increase safety in both houses and apartments.

Neighbourhood Watch is an organised collaboration between residents, the police and often also the municipality. The purpose is to reduce the risk of burglary, vandalism and other crimes by helping each other keep watch, share information and act quickly when something seems wrong. Everyone can take part – whether living in a detached house, terraced house or apartment.

In practice, Neighbourhood Watch means that residents in the area appoint contact persons who maintain an ongoing dialogue with the police. They receive advice on how to protect their homes, what to be alert to and how to report observations in a safe way. The municipality can contribute with lighting, safer environments and support in preventive work.
